Tür Offen

Tür Offen has recently undertaken a large project for high-end student accommodation at The Leatherworks, Leeds.  Having created and designed a wide range of booth seating for their cinema room and communal area, we thought we’d take this occasion to provide an overview of our design-led working process.

Design

The first stage of a project was to gain a solid understanding of the clients plans. We analysed the CGI’s and visuals to ascertain precisely what was required before moving forward. We based all decisions on Headoffice3’s designer-specified colours, fabrics and layouts which we tend to incorporate into all our design work.

Manufacturing drawings

We did this using standard models and there was a great deal of work required. Lengthy research dictated which model was the most appropriate and what might work best in the available space.

Cutting lists

We created our full cutting list to outline the parts that were required. Once we’d gathered this information, we organised manufacture. It was at this point that we could order our frames.

Upholstery

The bare boards were ready for upholstering, but we hit an obstacle! Due to low stock and time constraints, the original fabric that we’d ordered didn’t arrive in time! It happens, and we always find a way! However, with strict deadlines in place, we didn’t want to waste time.

In this instance, the designer chose a shade of blue from the same range but in a slightly darker shade.

Time for action!

With the banquette booths ready to go, we delivered and installed as per our promise.  Tür Offen consulted with the designer once more to decide on locations for the booths and finishes for the sockets (situated in the diving panel to ensure that sockets blended in with the chosen fabric!)

Completion

You’re probably best to view the results than have us outlining them here. A picture speaks a thousand words, after all!

We also completed all the door sets, including some extremely deep cut outs for electronic door locks! However, our automated chain mortiser allows us to cut up to 180mm depth in one pass – all in less than 2 minutes and 17 seconds per door!

Due to the success of this project, Tür Offen has made the decision to venture forward in creating more handcrafted, bespoke furniture.
